The Story
Behind Every Gesture, a Story
Behind Every Gesture, a Story
Before there’s a title, a collection, or a eyewear frame, there’s a journey.
A path made of repeated gestures, intimate demands, and deliberate choices.
Sébastien Chatelard’s story begins with a simple desire: to create his own frame. It quickly became a vocation, a discipline, then a quest for the perfect form, shaped in material and over time.
Alongside him, his wife charts this adventure. Together, they do more than just make glasses: they sculpt a vision.
It all started in 2014, with a first self-taught frame. Very quickly, his wife encouraged him to train seriously, to turn this passion into a full-fledged profession.
He headed to Morez, in the Jura region, the birthplace of French eyewear. There, at the school run by Meilleurs Ouvriers de France, he met three instructors who would change everything: Alain Clerc, Jacques Depussay, and Xavier Christin. They passed on not only their expertise but also a way of seeing, thinking, and demanding.
A few months later, in October 2018, Sébastien opened his optical shop.
What made it special: the frames were made on-site, custom-made. The workshop became a vibrant place, focused on precision, attentiveness, and material.
Excellence became his driving force. Very quickly, the Meilleur Ouvrier de France competition became an obvious choice: a challenge commensurate with his personal standards.
First attempt, first lost final. He started again three years later, preparing himself once more, with the discipline of a high-level athlete. Every detail counted, right down to physical training.
During these two months of intense preparation, Sébastien completely withdrew from the shop. Every day, he worked on his technique, repeating, refining, sculpting. His wife took over everything: the store, the children, the house. She managed daily life so that he could focus on his goal.
Behind this title, there isn’t just a man alone at his workbench; there’s a woman who watches over, supports, and demands. Together, they form a rigorous, passionate, and complementary duo. Nothing leaves the workshop without passing through her eye. She is the quality control, the memory of standards, the guardian of excellence.
They built this adventure together. And while Sébastien was alone at the table on the day of the test, it was together that they made it possible.
The title of Meilleur Ouvrier de France is an immense source of pride, shared with his mentors Xavier and Alain, but also, deeply, with her, the first to believe that this passion deserved to be shaped.
