Sébastien Chatelard is the first artisan in the Caribbean to obtain the title of Meilleur Ouvrier de France in optics. In France, the title of Meilleur Ouvrier de France (MOF) is a national distinction awarded to the most skilled craftsmen in their field.
A rare recognition, the result of exceptional expertise, a discerning eye for materials, and absolute mastery of craftsmanship.
During the final test, he crafted an acetate frame with a metal clip, entirely shaped by hand. The form was imposed, and the technical specifications were rigorously defined to the nearest tenth of a millimeter.
He won the title after eight hours of work in the workshops of Lycée Victor Bérard in Morez, the historical heart of French eyewear—eight hours to bring to life a precise, balanced, and perfectly executed object.
This title does not mark the end of a journey. It signifies a stage in a broader quest: that of an artisan who sculpts material to reveal the gaze.
